On This Earth Day-Learn More About The Environment
Every year people all over celebrate World Earth Day, with plans in mind to save earth and the environment. But sometimes we need to ask ourselves “will we really execute our plans?” The existence of nature is the proof of our own existence and everybody appreciates the existence of water, forest, animals, songbird, flora, and fauna, but unfortunately, these can be misused and end up being harmed. The environment is polluted by various things such as radioactive elements, plastics, sewage, domestic waste and industrial pollution.
Going green is easier than you think. There are little things you can do every day to help reduce greenhouse gases and make a less harmful impact on the environment. Taking care of the Earth is not just a responsibility — it’s a privilege.
Take a look below at some ideas and tips on how we can do this. Let’s protect the planet and go green to save our environment!
You can reduce the water wastage/Pollution by:-
1.Reducing your bathing time
2.Install a low-flow shower head
3.Turn off the water in the sink while shaving or brushing your teeth
4.Submerge a full water bottle in the toilet tank to shift or move
5.water and make it a low flow model to save water with each flush
You can reduce Air Pollution by :-
1.The forest cover should be protected. Adequate forest cover is essential for maintaining the quality of air. Trees absorbs carbon-dioxide (CO2) and releases oxygen (O2).
2.Green belts should be created. Such areas should be developed around densely populated cities. There should be strict restriction for establishment of large buildings and industries along the Green belt areas.
3.Automobile engines should be redesigned in such a way that their emissions cause minimum pollution. Old automobile engines should be replaced by new ones. People should be encouraged to share the vehicle, and to avoid vehicles for short distances.
4.Use of railway steam engine should be stopped. The burning of combustible materials such as coal produces poisonous gases that are released into the air. Electric engines should be used instead of steam or diesel engines.
5.Industrial areas should be located at a safe distance from the residential areas.
6.Newly designed smoke free furnaces should be used.
Forest fires should be checked. Adequate preventive measures should be adopted to protect the forests.
7.In industries there should be the arrangement for pollution control.
8.Cheap devices for controlling air pollution should be developed.
Air pollution can be checked only through the joint efforts of the government, non‑government organizations and the general public.
You can Prevent Soil Pollution by:-
1.Managing and regulating the chemical waste disposal by industries is vital to soil health. Treatment of the wastes before disposal to remove chemicals and heavy metals at any cost must be done
2.Prevention can never be a solo effort. The state governments, farmers’ organisations, collectives and cooperatives, educational institutions and conservation groups need to work together for regulating and reducing farming related soil pollution.
3.Planning the application of fertilizer at the right time, in the right quantity with the correct methods can reduce the accumulation of chemicals.
4.Planting certain grasses and clovers that can absorb and recycle the additional nutrients and prevent soil erosion. Planting rows of trees and shrubs around fields and along the borders of the stream or lake also help in the same way.
5.Over tilling of the soil must be avoided to prevent soil erosion and soil compaction.Managing the correct disposal of human and animal wastes and treating the sewage before release makes a big difference in the magnitude of soil and water pollution
6.Composting, solid liquid separation, anaerobic digestion and lagoons are different ways of managing animal manure. Of these anaerobic digestion is the most effective. It involves the use of anaerobic bacteria and heat. The products of this process are nutrient rich liquid used as fertilizer and methane gas that can be burned to produce electricity and heat. Anaerobic digestion is a best method for controlling odor associated with manure management.
7.Afforestation or planting of more trees is always good for binding the soil.
