The undergraduate results for commerce and arts streams are likely to be declared late with the assessment of answer sheets being affected due to the strike called by Maharashtra Federation of University College Teachers Organisation, which continued for over 45 days.
Over 8,000 teachers struck work over upgrading of payments to the 6th pay commission, arrears distribution of 6th pay commission, pay fixation and NET-SET exemption. The strike was called off after Higher and Technical education minister assured that all teachers joining between 1991 and 1999 and not clearing NET/SET would be approved.
Pune University College Teacher Organisation (PUCTO) president SP Lawande said, “The number of papers in these streams is huge, while the number of teachers for assessment work is less. Thus, this gap is proving it difficult to complete the assessment work. Arts results are likely to be delayed, as English has more papers than the number of teachers assessing them, as it is a subject common to all three streams – science, arts and commerce.”
There are 450 teachers assessing arts stream papers, while 350 for assessing commerce papers, said Lawande. He claimed that more teachers are added every day for the work.
Although Lawande claimed that assessment work for the science stream has been completed, the scenario at the Centralised Assessment Process (CAP) centres seemed to give an altogether different picture. Teachers at the CAP centres stated that they were still to finish the assessment work of various branches of science. One of them stated, “We will take another 12 days to finish assessment work.”
The CAP centres also have lesser number of teachers doing the work. Refuting this Lawande said, “Every teacher is given only 60 papers, and they report to the centre at 9 am. Obviously, they finish their work in a couple of hours. The entire assessment work will be completed by June 15.”
Colleges will also be reopening on June 15 itself, and the precedent has been to declare the results in the early weeks of June before colleges reopen.
