Caned students return to school
ADODARA: The Brahmanvasi village primary school in Padra taluka started functioning normally again after an assurance by the administration that the teachers there will be transferred. The villagers had raised the demand after a teacher there beat up standard five students.
The students had not been going to school since Saturday when an offence was registered at Padra police station against teacher Bela Patel, who had beaten up students of the standard five at the school. The parents had demanded the transfer of all the teachers out of the school even as Patel was suspended.
The reason for seeking the transfer was the fact that the parents feared that the students may be victimized by other teachers too. The students had raised their voice against insufficient food given to them in the mid-day meal to a member of the school management committee. This had annoyed Patel who bet them up.
Raju Parmar, who had received the complaints, said that the district administration had assured that the teachers will be transferred soon. "They have told us that the orders are ready and will be served soon. The students went to school today. They were also paid amounts due to them under various scholarships," said Parmar.
Patel was arrested on Monday and was granted bail by a Padra court. She has been posted at Chhota Udepur during the period of the suspension.
