CHENNAI: More than 1.5 lakh students are set to take the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) on April 21 at 238 centres in 112 cities in the country. This is the eighth edition of the test.
Nearly 80% of the candidates taking the test are boys, and the highest number of candidates are from Andhra Pradesh, with 24,881 students, followed by Uttar Pradesh (24,034), Bihar (18,692) and Rajasthan (11296). Home state Tamil Nadu sends 10,005 candidates for the exam. For the convenience of students in the Middle East exam centres have been set up in Dubai and Kuwait too, said VIT University chancellor G Viswanathan.
Under the VIT IGNITE Scholarship Scheme, the university offers tuition fee waiver for the first three Class 12 board exam rank holders ineach state and the top 50 scorers in VITEEE will get a 75% tuition fee waiver, while candidates securing ranks from 51 to 100 will get a 50% waiver. "VIT University's Support The Advancement of Rural Students Scheme will enable toppers in government schools from each rural backward district in Tamil Nadu who appear for VITEEE and secure top marks to get a full tuition fee waiver and hostel and mess fee exemption," said Viswanathan.
